TIME MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP
“People often complain about lack of time when the lack of direction is the real problem” ‘Zig Ziglar (1926-2012) American author, salesman, and motivational speaker Time Is relative …. You can’t touch it, you can’t feel it, and we certainly cannot control it. However, time is precious. How are you spending your time? Does it match your priorities? How do your direct reports spend their time? Does it match their priorities and more importantly, does it support yours? Increasingly, businesses are expecting fewer people to do more work, and if your focus is not on the right task at the right time, you are going to struggle. Most business owners are time poor. Why, because they spend too much time working in their business instead of on their business. Often business owners do not value their time. They do many low valued tasks, (banking, filing, data entry etc) which take their focus off growing the business and thus become time poor (and business poor). Urgency and importance are two categories used to prioritise tasks. This distinction helps to clarify where to focus, what to do first and define what the best use of time is. Operating at a high performance level requires a significant understanding of priortisation. The urgent v Important Tool is essential in this regard when facing a demanding workload. DrStepen R Covey (1932-2012) talked about ‘Putting First Things First’ as the third Habit in his book 7 habits of Highly Effective People. He wrote that ”to live a more balanced existence, you have to recognise that not doing everything that comes along is ok….All it takes is realizing that it is all right to say no when necessary and then focus on your highest priorities” (Covey,2005). The skills and techniques learnt from this workshop not only provide, you the business owner more timebut also has a significant positive impact on the bottom line.
